The Cruel Sea with Loose Content Prepare yourself for a deep dive into the heart of a quintessentially Australian sound with rock revolutionaries The Cruel Sea! Formed in Sydney in the late 1980s, The Cruel Sea made waves with their swampy, surf-infused blues and roots sound, blending everything from spaghetti western and country honk to zydeco and acoustic rock. When charismatic front man Tex Perkins joined the band, his deep, gravelly vocals added a whole new dimension to their already distinctive sound, propelling them into indie rock royalty. Hits like “Better Get a Lawyer,” “Black Stick,” and the unforgettable “The Honeymoon Is Over” made them a household name, and their 30th-anniversary tour in 2023proved they’ve still got it. The Cruel Sea’s live shows are masterclasses in moody, soulful rock, with bluesy guitar riffs and Perkins’ powerful, ocean-deep vocals driving the sound. You’ll hear the classic tunes that made them giants in the Australian music scene but expect a few surprises too–new tracks from their brand new album Straight Into the Sun or a revival of their Number 1 album Three Legged Dog. One thing’s for sure: this is a show not to be missed. Opening for The Cruel Sea are three-piece indie/alt-rock band Loose Content, who hail from the hinterland of Byron Bay. Formed during high school, by the time they were 18 years old, Loose Content had impressed on the stages of esteemed Aussie festivals such as Byron Bay Bluesfest & Woodford Folk Festival and, more recently, have been more than holding their own being invited on the road to support respected national acts such as Magic Dirt, The Cruel Sea, The Vanns, Rum Jungle and many others. Relocating from the Northern Rivers to Naarm/Melbourne, Loose Content are following in the footsteps of bands like The Birthday Party and The Drones, who cut their teeth and built their musical output on residency gigs and tales of shared housing. Loose Content’s sound draws inspiration from artists like The Police, Radiohead, and Midnight Oil.

Chillazy Chair

  • The Chillazy chair is a specially created low-level chair, to allow comfort during picnic-style events and concerts. Chillazy chairs are available for purchase as an add-on to your ticket, or can be hired on the evening at the event. Limited amount of Chillazy chairs will be available for hire on the evening and a $20 bond will be required upon hire of chair, and returned upon return of the chair.

Picnic Blanket

  • Picnic blanket is available to be purchased for the evening. Picnic rugs are 150cm x 180cm and can could sit 4 people comfortably.

Same Day Zoo Entry

  • Enjoy a day at the Zoo before your concert at a special discounted rate! This ticket is valid for the same day as your concert ticket only and is not transferrable to another day. Please note, Twilight ticket holders will need to exit the Zoo at 5.00pm when the Zoo closes, and enter at 6.00pm when gates re-open for the Concert

By purchasing the Twilight at Taronga Retreat package you can choose the best seats in the house with escorted Early Access to the Concert Lawns and there’s no need to worry about getting home and after the concert, your room is just a short walk through the Zoo away. The Wildlife Retreat at Taronga is a luxurious eco-Retreat, nestled in the heart of Taronga Zoo with thoughtfully designed rooms with views of native animals and bushland.

Package inclusions are for Two Adults in a single room with either 1 King Bed or 2 Single Beds:

  • Escorted early access to the Concert Lawns to secure the best position
  • Overnight stay in luxury accommodation for two adults
    • Late Check-out (12:00pm)

Unreserved tickets include entry into Twilight at Taronga from 6pm. This ticket does not include access to Taronga Zoo Sydney before 6pm.

Children under 4 years are free into Twilight at Taronga, excluding Lil Twilight concerts.

Taronga Zoo is a fully licensed event and BYO alcohol and glass is not permitted. Bag checks will be conducted on entry and all alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages in un-sealed containers (including glass, cans or hard plastics) will be confiscated.

Free water refill stations are also available on site, so bring your empty reusable water bottles, no glass permitted! Please ensure your reusable water bottles are emptied before entering through the security checkpoint.
